12M - 15M

From the 12th of May to the 15th of May Barcelona celebrated "officially" and "unofficially" the one-year anniversary of the 15M movement. The official movement started with a sanctioned and planned protest starting at 18:00 in Placa Catalunya on the 12th.  Once back in Placa Catalunya the "unofficial" movement began with organized assembles gathering around the center of Placa Catalunya and camping out until the 15th. The 4 days were mostly positive with little to no conflict with the police.

Happy May Day

This picture was taken yesterday during one of the organized Day of the Workers peaceful protest.  These scary looking guys are not the so called anti-system "terrorist" (as the government calls them) but the police.  For the first time, as far as I know, loads of police showed up looking like this and shadowed the march.  Other than wearing an armband that said police they were unidentifiable.  As the protest continued many in the crowd yelled at them calling them an embarrassment among other things but the crowd remained peaceful.

Finally, towards the end of the protest this group of "police" started to follow the crowd so I followed them, making sure to give them plenty of space.  I snapped a few photos and one of the group turned and approached me.  I, not trying to cause any trouble, addressed him politely and with respect.  He ignored this and simply told me not to take any pictures.  I asked if it was against the law and he said again don't take any pictures. I asked again if it was illegal but he refused to answer. Because I was not sure of  law and had seen how earlier in the day they had pushed others including journalist with press passes around I did as he asked.

Skate Pro

This past weekend my sister visited with her husband Brian and two sons Noah and Ben.  Noah is a big fan of skating and a pretty good skater also. We spent some time touring around Barcelona and he wanted to hit all the hot skate spots. So, I borrowed a board from a friend (thanks Ewan) and we headed out.  Here are few shots from the adventure, keep in mind that Noah is only 12 years old and I only showed picture of tricks he landed!

Ruedas en Fuego celebrated it's 6th year and last year on March 31st, 2012 and I was lucky enough to be there to take portraits of the racers.  I spent most of the evening trying to get the flashes just right but I think a few of the pictures came out ok.  To see more of the photographs and find out a little more about Ruedas en Fuego: http://ps.edwintoonephotography.com/gallery/Ruedas-en-Fuego/G0000OcaE.u0fvY8

Shot by shot of the bad dog walkers

These photos were taken during a general strike in Barcelona on March 29th, 2012.  The only thing that this couple did wrong was run when a group of police jumped out of a van and charged them and many other people.  After a few hits with the stick, throwing the woman the ground, and sitting on the man for a few minutes the police just got up and left. "Whoops, I guess we got the wrong dog walkers."
